FAQs

Any Glass

  • What is tempered glass?

Tempered glass is a safety material created through a process applied after cutting. This process strengthens the glass surface against impact and causes it to break into small pieces that are less likely to cause serious injury. It's important to note that the edges and corners of tempered glass are particularly sensitive to impact.
  • What kind of glass should be used in cabinet doors?

For most standard cabinet doors, we suggest using 1/8" thick glass. For unusually long doors, we might recommend thicker glass, up to 1/4". Alternatively, tempered glass can be used for enhanced safety.
  • What kind of glass should I use for glass shelving?

For glass shelving, we typically recommend glass thickness ranging from 1/4" to 1/2". The specific thickness depends on the shelf size and its support structure.
  • Can you put a plate groove into the shelving glass?

Yes, we can accommodate plate grooves in glass shelving. We work with a vendor who specializes in sandblasting grooves into the glass for this purpose.
  • What thickness of glass do I need for a glass table top?

For protecting an existing wood table, we recommend at least 1/4" thick glass. For tables over 6ft long or with more than 1/8" bow, 3/8" thickness may be advised. For standalone glass tops on pedestals, we suggest a minimum of 3/8" or 1/2" thickness. While 3/4" glass is available, it's very heavy and we can't guarantee the base's ability to support it.
  • Do I need tempered glass as a table top?

Tempered glass is necessary for outdoor patio tables, near pools, in commercial spaces, or when the glass serves as the actual table surface without support. However, if you're protecting an existing top, non-tempered glass is preferable. Tempered glass, if broken, shatters into tiny pieces, which could damage the surface you're trying to protect.
  • Only 1 side of my window is broken. Can I just replace that piece only?

Unfortunately, replacing just one side isn't possible. When one side breaks, the window loses its insulation. Replacement units are ordered as sealed units from the manufacturer, complete with matching grids between the glass panes if applicable.
  • My window is Low-E. Will the replacement look the same as the other windows?

While there are numerous Low-E window brands, we offer two tints of Low-E glass that closely match most manufacturers' products. Our lighter tints are Cardinal 270 and Vitro Solar ban 60, while our darker tints are Cardinal 366 and Vitro Solar ban 70XL. Any slight color difference is usually minimal and not easily noticeable.
  • How can I get a quote on window or insulated glass replacement?

For a preliminary quote, please send us photos of the window from both inside and outside views via text or email. Include approximate dimensions of the visible glass area (not the entire window) and the property address. Also, specify the number of windows needing replacement.
  • Is there a charge to have a technician over to measure?

There's no direct charge if you complete the preliminary quote steps first. If the initial estimate is acceptable, we'll send someone for precise measurements and a final quote at no cost. Alternatively, we offer a $190 service to assess all windows in your home needing replacement, which is fully credited towards your eventual order.
  • What is the standard thickness for mirrored glass?

1/8” thickness mirror is recommended for cabinet doors, inside cabinets, and some framed mirrors. ¼” thickness mirror is recommended for mirrored gym walls, vanity mirrors, backsplashes, and some custom framed mirrors. Some clients use mirrors for tabletops to cover damaged surfaces.
